On Aug. 31, 2020, Intel will host a customer spotlight session featuring Portland-based stop-animation studio, LAIKA. During this live webinar, LAIKA Visual Effects Supervisor Steve Emerson and LAIKA Production Technology Director Jeff Stringer will share how they teamed with Intel to use artificial intelligence and machine learning to accelerate digital paint and rotoscoping tasks.
LAIKA is best known for its Oscar®-nominated hybrid stop-motion feature films “Coraline,” “ParaNorman,” “The Boxtrolls,” “Kubo and the Two Strings,” and “Missing Link” (which won the Golden Globe). The company was also recognized in 2016 when it earned a Scientific and Technology Oscar® for innovation in animated filmmaking.
Excited to harness advanced technology to expand what’s possible, LAIKA worked closely with Intel’s Applied Machine Learning team to unlock the value of its data and discover new ways to bring its characters and imaginary worlds to life.
